Description
This is a significant opportunity for Dewsbury as the town seeks investment from Government to significantly improve the economic prosperity of the town, create jobs for local people and deliver significant improvements to the physical space of the area. Working with Kirklees Council and the Dewsbury Town Deal Board, proposals have been submitted for the regeneration of the market and shopping arcade, the development of a town centre park, residential accommodation and improvements to roads and access. As a proud town, with a rich history, it is crucial that this opportunity is a success and delivers positive outcomes for local people.
The Board reflects a diverse range of perspectives including residents, business, investors, representatives from the local council, health and education, along with local political leaders. As the Chair of the Dewsbury Town Deal Board, you will be central to the governance arrangements for the delivery of programmes, securing investment and ensuring that regeneration reflects the needs and aspirations of Dewsbury residents.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate they are an effective chair, able to bring enthusiasm and strategic thinking to the board, whilst allowing collective engagement from board members who represents the broad array of interests in the Town Deal. With commercial experience, you will reflect the interests of the local business community, but also be able to hold confidence of local and national government, and political leaders. The successful candidate will have connections with the local area and ensure that the board reflects the views of the town and achieves the best for Dewsbury.

Time commitment: Up to 18 days per annum - 1 day per month, plus 6 other days
